Slow Cooker Meatza-Mess

I put this Meatza-Mess into my slow cooker right before I left to run errands, and by the time I came home, my house smelled like HEAVEN! It literally seemed like the most delicious pizza was cooking, and this Slow Cooker Meatza-Mess tasted even more delicious than I had hoped!

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker

Ingredients
  

  • 12 ounces Italian sausage (Paleo-friendly), chopped
  • 1 cup olives, sliced
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 sweet onion, sliced
  • 1 cup marinated artichoke hearts, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 15 ounce jar pizza sauce (I used Whole Foods 365 brand)
  • 3 cups fresh spinach
  • Fresh basil, jalapeño and red pepper flakes for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Place Italian sausage, olives, mushrooms, green pepper, onion, artichoke hearts, garlic and pizza sauce in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 3 hours.
  • Add the spinach and cook for an additional hour. Use a slotted spoon to remove the meatza-mess from the slow cooker. Top with fresh basil, jalapeño and red pepper flakes and serve.

    Do you substitute the sausage? I also have colitis and sausage in almost every form activates my cranky colon.

      Hi Julia! You could easily substitute it for ground beef, or even ground turkey/chicken! I would add some extra Italian seasoning for flavor 🙂

    Hi! If I use my own italian sausage (made with ground meat), do I cook the sausage first? Thanks!

      Hi Dorothy! The directions would remain the same – I used uncooked ground Italian sausage and it turned out perfect! 🙂
