The holidays can be a crazy time where it’s easy to get off track from just about everything. I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way! You really can feel great and still have a ton of fun, so for Motivation Monday this week, I’m sharing my top five holiday survival tips, while still feeling great!
- Let Go Of Perfectionism
Rule number one – don’t forget to really enjoy life! I believe that stress can have a HUGE impact on our health. You can be eating the cleanest diet there is, but if you’re crazy stressed about trying to be perfect, what’s the point?
Eating well and taking care of yourself doesn’t need to be so stressful. I believe that letting go a little and not obsessing over every single morsel of food that you eat can really bring back a lot of joy into your life. Do your best to just relax and have fun with the ones you love!
- Meditate
I know what most of you are thinking… UGH, meditation… Seriously though, I started meditating every morning a couple months ago and it’s made a huge impact on my life. There’s no better way for me to feel centered and to let go of any lingering stress than to focus my energy completely on myself for just 10-15 minutes a day.
If you’re struggling getting started with meditation, I highly recommend checking out the Headspace App. It’s what I started with, and it really changed my view of meditation and turned it into a habit for me. (FYI…I get nothing from telling you about Headspace, I just think it’s a really awesome tool to use.)
- Eat What Makes You Feel Good
One thing I know for sure is that gluten makes me feel awful, which is exactly why I stay away from it. It’s really the one thing that I know will make me sick, so to me, it’s not worth it. Maybe it’s worth it to you? Or maybe it’s not, but gluten-free grains or dairy are cool? That’s not for me or anyone else to judge, which is why I say just eat what makes you feel good!
I haven’t had eggnog in years, but when I recently went to a holiday party with a friend of mine, and they were serving legit homemade eggnog with bourbon, I knew it was time to give it a try! It was a super fun party and a really delicious treat, so I had zero regrets. This eggnog was worth it for me because it was completely homemade, not the junky stuff that comes in a carton. When it comes to alcohol, stick with what works for you. Maybe try wine, or my go-to safe drink: silver tequila with soda water and a lime wedge.
- Bring Your Own Healthy Treat
This is especially for those of you with known food intolerances. If you’re heading to Aunt Martha’s for dinner, whom doesn’t seem to understand that what you eat can make you sick, consider bringing a dish of your own to share with everyone! You don’t need to tell anyone that it’s any different, and odds are they won’t even know. This way you can limit yourself to the safe dishes that will keep you feeling good and know that you’ll have whatever you brought to fall back on. Bring on the paleo cookies!
- Move On
Did you eat or drink something that you regret or that made you feel terrible? Regret won’t do you any good, so just move on! No one (and I really mean no one) is perfect all of the time! Feeling like your gut could use some extra love? Now’s the time to add in some extra bone broth!
This week I only challenge you to really just enjoy life! Let go of the stressors that don’t matter, and be with the ones you love.
Happy Holidays!
