“You have to remember, fear is not real. It is a product of the thoughts you create. Don’t misunderstand me. Danger is very real. But fear is a choice.”
– Will Smith, I Am Legend
I’ve loved this quote since the first time I heard it, because it rings true with so much of my life. Danger is something to be recognized, but realizing that fear is simply an emotion that we create can help to put things in perspective.
Do you let fear stop you, or do you embrace fear so that it pushes your forward?
It’s often thought that those who are really successful don’t feel fear. Like somehow they just got past all that. That would be nice if that were actually the case, but I don’t think fear is something that ever goes away. We ALL feel fear. Those that have truly succeeded in life just know how to keep going, despite their fears.
From my own experience, I’ve learned that the best way you can embrace fear is to recognize it, and then continue onwards anyway.
Fear is something that creeps into my mind every. Single. Day. I’ve had to learn to really push past my fears in order to move forward and continue to not only grow in life, but also with my business. To have an online business, and to put yourself out there every week is not always easy.
For those of you that follow me on Instagram, you know that this past summer I started training with my husband for American Ninja Warrior. While it’s been a ton of fun, it’s something that pushes me FAR outside of my comfort zone. Just getting to the gym for the first time required me pushing my fears aside for what I truly wanted. Each day that I train, fear creeps in my mind. I recognize the fear, and I do it anyway. I can’t tell you how good it feels when you push past your fears, and you accomplish something new!
I believe that if we always hide from whatever it is that we fear, we will never grow. Life is meant to be about new experiences. The more and more I’ve pushed past my own fears, the more I grow and the more I change.
It’s one of the most important lessons that I have for all of you, if you truly want to change your life. Learn to embrace your fear, and do whatever it is anyway.
I leave you with this challenge for the week ahead:
Do something you’re afraid of! Recognize your fear as just that, a product of the thoughts that you create. It is not real.
I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
Has fear ever stopped you?
Do you easily push past your fears, or has this been hard for you to do?
Have you done something recently that you’re afraid of? How amazing did you feel once you accomplished it?
I love these posts!! It must be a good reminder for you too to be writing these.
I’ve been fighting my fears like crazy and can’t wait to get to the point where they don’t scare me much.
One big thing I’ve just done is accepted a co-op offer in Wisconsin – and I’m a college student in Michigan! So despite the fact that I’m leaving comfort and friends, I’m going for it!! I’ll have to get back to you on the “after” question. 🙂
That you so much, Hanna, I really appreciate it! It’s definitely a good reminder for me 😉 I love hearing that you’re pushing past your fears, that’s a huge step! I’d love to hear how it goes. 🙂
Love this post so much! Love you! ?
Thanks, Heather! Love you!!
Feel the fear and do it anyway! One of my favorite motto’s! Another one of my faves is F.E.A.R. = False Evidence Appearing Real.
I face fears every day too! Some are easier to confront than others, but I just keep breathing, keep swimming, and face those fears because that’s what life is about. It always feels great on the other end after moving past that hurdle. Freeing and empowering for sure!
Loving Motivation Monday! <3
Yes, yes, yes! I love this so much, Stacey!! xoxo
