Kristen’s Book Club: February 2019 Reading List

Feb 24, 2019 · 21 Comments

I LOVE reading. Getting lost in a good book is one of my favorite hobbies ever, and as I’ve discovered, many of you love reading too! So with that in mind, I came up with the idea to start sharing my favorite books in this new series. Welcome to Kristen’s Book Club: February 2019 Reading List!

In all of 2018, I read one actual book. ONE. While I listened to a ton of audiobooks on personal development last year, it just isn’t the same to me as getting lost in a great story. Plus I’m always doing something else while listening to an audiobook because sitting still isn’t one of my biggest strengths.

Kristen’s Book Club: February 2019 Reading List

2019 is now the year of books! Many other things too, but we’re chatting about books here, so I’ll stick with that.

So far this year, I’ve already read 6 books, JUST FOR FUN, and I’m so stoked about it!

What changed? I’m straight up making the time to read now. I get my work done even faster, knowing that I’ve got a good book waiting for me to read. It’s also helped me to balance out my work/life a bit more, as I tend to overwork myself, so having a book waiting for me helps me sit still for a bit – as that’s something that I’m not the best at.

Each month I’ll share the books that I’ve read over the previous month, and a few notes about what I loved about them, etc.

This post includes all of the books that I’ve read over the past 2 months (January + February), and my very favorite books are listed at the end.

My February 2019 picks are all filled with alllll the drama, which is my favorite to read! If you’re into reading about drama/romance too, then you’ll love these.

My Husband’s Wife by Jane Corry:

This was the book that reignited my love for reading. Right before I picked it up, Mike (my husband), had mentioned that I should take more time to do the things that I love. I figured that was pretty much a great idea, and one of my very favorite things to do is read. While we were at Target later that day, I grabbed this book and almost instantly became hooked. This is about a lawyer, Lily who marries Ed, the artist, and the tangle of drama that their lives become. The name will make sense in the end, promise. 😉

The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand:

If you’re into a murder mystery, this is a really good one. A bridesmaid is found dead just hours before a wedding on Nantucket, and basically, everyone is a suspect. This book will leave you guessing until the last moment as to what really happened.

All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda:

The perfect read for anyone that loves a good mystery, mixed with lots of drama and romance. I love books and movies that twist the storyline so that the ending is a total surprise, and this did book had exactly that. Next up I’m diving into The Perfect Stranger, also by Megan Miranda.

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen:

This is one of my favorite reads from this list, as it had alllll the drama. You’ll think that you’re reading about a jealous ex-wife stalking her ex-husband’s fiancé…but just wait for the twists, as the story that unfolds goes far beyond. This was such a well-written story that I didn’t want it to end!

The Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen:

I loved The Wife Between Us so much that I immediately moved onto the other novel by this author duo. This one held surprises at different points in the book, although I’d say that I really enjoyed their first novel even more.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens:

This book came as the most recommended by my readers! At first, the title threw me off, as I figured it’d be about something old-timey and country (both def not my things), but considering how many told me that this was a must-read, I went for it, and I’m SO glad that I did! This is definitely one of the top 5 books that I’ve ever read.

All in all, my top two very favorite books out of this list were Where the Crawdads Sing & The Wife Between Us. I’d highly recommend both!

Are you into reading? If so, what’s your favorite book that you’ve ever read, or what are you reading right now? I’d love to hear what you’re into in the comments below!

Started Anonymous Girl last night. Can’t put it down. Finishing it tonight I think. I really like their first book too, hence me running out to get this one to read. Your other picks are also on my reading list too! Are you on Goodreads app?!? I have found a lot of great recommendations on that app too.

I am reading Educated by Tara Westover & Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. Two very different books, both equally good. Coming up next is Becoming Michelle Obama. For something fiction, perhaps I’ll select one from your list!

I really liked Anonymous Girl, but I found I could tell that there were two different writing styles. Have you read any book by Mary Kubica? Not a bad one in the bunch. Lots of twists and turns.

I just finished The Indifferent Stars Above by Daniel James Brown. It’s about the Donner Party, and it’s absolutely heartwrenching! I find most histoy books to be dry, but this was so well written.

Synchroncity! My new year’s resolution is to read 50 novels this year. I have to be careful to not let it become a chore in my mind, so here are my caveats: I don’t finish a book I don’t like, and I’m OK if I don’t hit 50. But setting this challenge has moved reading for pleasure to the top of my priority list, which is my goal. So far, I’ve read 8 books I’ve enjoyed. And it’s so nice! Here are two recommendations from my favorites list: The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey and Someplace to Be Flying by Charles De Lint.
