Eat The Yolks – Review & Giveaway!

Feb 25, 2014 · 132 Comments

SONY DSC

“What if the foods we’ve been told not to eat – the foods we’ve been told might, in fact, kill us, make us fat, or make us unhealthy – are actually the foods we should be eating? What if the foods we’ve been told are healthy are actually causing us harm?
The only thing more infuriating than finding out that we’ve been lied to, is finding out that we’ve been eating those lies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, day in and day out, for decades. How could this have happened?” – Liz Wolfe, Eat The Yolks

You know that feeling you get on Christmas morning as a kid? How you can barely stand another second waiting to open your presents? That’s exactly how I felt when this book arrived on my doorstep, and I still can’t believe that I’m lucky enough that Liz Wolfe asked me to review it for her! I’d pre-ordered Eat The Yolks on Amazon long ago, and I can say with all honesty, that I have never, ever (ever, ever, ever) been more excited to read a book.

Liz is wicked smart; this is the book that everyone needs to read! It is going to change lives, and it does so in the most hilarious way! Liz’s book has opened my eyes and forever changed the way I look at the world. I had so many “ah ha!” moments while reading, I lost count!

So how exactly did our world become a place where people started to toss their egg yolks, and eat tasteless egg white omelets, with low fat swiss cheese (I’m looking right at myself here!)? When did we begin to fear fat so much? And believe that cholesterol causes all sorts of problems, like heart disease? Thankfully for you and I, Liz wrote this brilliant book to bust every myth we’ve ever been taught.

Truth be told, I feared fat for most of my life. I truly believed that fat caused all sorts of problems, and that it was something to avoid. Low fat was the way to go, especially if the front of a package told me that the “food” inside was “low fat” or “healthy.” Fat free? Even better! Right? Whole grains too! Lots of those! You know where that sort of thinking got me? It made me sick, very sick. I was sick for years because I ate food that I thought was good for me. Food that the food pyramid told me was healthy. It’s really as simple as that.

Eat The Yolks is the book that I wish I had years ago. It has now given me every tool I could ever need to answer why exactly I eat the way that I do, and how our world became a place where we believe that margarine is better than real butter (It’s not. At all.) Liz breaks it all down – from fat, to protein, to carbs and nutrients – she gives a crystal clear picture of what we should be eating for optimal health, along with how exactly we ended up where we are today.

I am living, breathing proof that real food works wonders that even doctors can’t explain. I have healed my entire body by using real food, nothing else. I don’t eat grains; I don’t eat processed foods with ingredients I can hardly pronounce. I eat healthy fats, meat from properly raised animals, organic vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds. I eat real food, and it’s actually a very simple concept. I couldn’t have said this better myself…

“Eating real, natural foods with a long history in the human diet isn’t hard. Unlearning all the crap we’ve been taught? That’s hard.” – Liz Wolfe, Eat The Yolks

I honestly couldn’t recommend a book any higher, I loved every moment I spent reading it! You owe it to yourself to truly understand how the food on your plate directly affects all areas of your life, especially your health. For far too long we’ve been fed (literally) lie after lie about what good nutrition is. We deserve to know the truth. We deserve great health!

I’m already a follower of your blog, thanks for the chance at a giveaway ! And I love your dog ! =) I’ve never read this book, but would love to read it. It actually makes me think of another book I’ve read called “Why We Get Fat: And What To Do About It” by Gary Taubes. Although his book is more on the science of carbs/grains and what they really do to our bodies. It’s quite eye opening and interesting, it completely goes against the so called “Food Pyramid”. my email is: pollytoad07@yahoo.com

I can’t wait to read this book! Learning that healthy fats are good for you has been tough, but doable, and yet letting myself be ok with eating the yolks (as much as I love them!) has still been a struggle. Knowing your history and health struggles gives me every confidence in your decisions! I get so stuck eating the same things all the time out of habit so I’ve really enjoyed trying some of your recipes and convincing my stubborn boyfriend to try new things as well. 😉 While nothing has turned out as delicious LOOKING as yours, they’ve all been delicious! (and stubborn boyfriend approved!)

I have suffered with IBS for the last several years as well as adult acne, and need a drastic change to feel and look healthy again. I found you on Instagram and started following you immediately, then came here to read your story….talk about INSPIRING!! Eat The Yolks would be a great resource as I start this exciting journey of eating Paleo and begin to feel like myself again. Thank you for this great opportunity to win such a resourceful book, especially for Paleo newbies, and thank you to Liz for graciously offering her book for this giveaway! P.S. my cat would love to have his picture taken with a great book! 😉
