How many of you know someone who has had a serious illness? I’ve personally known far too many friends and family members who’ve been really sick. I believe with all of my heart that the chemicals we use on a daily basis play a huge role in our overall health. I believe they can play a role in making us sick.
Changing what you eat is one thing, but then to realize that your beauty and skincare routine may need an overhaul too? It can be so overwhelming! I know, because I’ve been there. It’s taken me quite some time to get to where I am now, which is a place where I choose what I eat and the products that I use, with a very conscious decision. I’m not perfect by any means, and there are a few things that I use that I know darn well are toxic. It’s really about just choosing my toxins wisely. 😉
In a perfect world, perhaps we would all DIY everything. If that’s you, more power to ya, and teach me your ways! In reality, sometimes it’s just nice to buy something that someone else has made, to save the time and hassle. It’s also great to support companies who are really doing it right, companies who actually care.
This post is exactly what I wish I would have come across years ago. It’s taken me a TON of trial and error to find natural products that I love, and that actually work. There are so many natural products out there, but I wouldn’t settle until I found the ones that beat their conventional counterpart. I didn’t even know if it would be possible, but it really is!
This is a list of my absolute favorite products, all from companies that I LOVE. I choose to support these companies because they care about the ingredients they use, and they care about keeping toxins out of our bodies.
Let’s get started with my favorite non-toxic products of all time!
Foundation:
Although I don’t wear foundation everyday, when I do, It has to be light and moisturizing. The best foundation I’ve found so far is the Tint Skin Foundation from Beautycounter. I love that all of Beautycounter’s products are rated a 0-2 on EWG.org. They make it SO easy to use safe products that work incredibly well!
Tinted Moisturizer:
Tinted moisturizer is what I personally prefer over foundation. The Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer is my absolute favorite as it covers just enough, and leaves my skin looking gorgeous and moisturized.
Concealer:
I can’t even begin to tell you how many different concealers I’ve been through to find one that I loved, and would stay put. The Touch Up Skin Concealer Pen from Beautycounter is BY FAR the best that I’ve ever used! It goes on super smooth, doesn’t cake, and really stays put!
Bronzer:
I loooooove a good bronzer, as it can really bring out your features. The Color Contour Matte Bronzer is my favorite, as it gives an incredibly natural looking glow, all with non-toxic ingredients that you can feel good about putting on your skin.
Lip Balm:
My lips used to be chapped All. The. Time. It’s a tie when it comes to the lip balms that I love, because both The Lip Conditioner from Beautycounter and the Lip Balm from Primally Pure work incredibly well! They’re both so nourishing, and have saved my dry lips. I only use it once or twice per day!
Lip Gloss:
I don’t often use lip gloss, but when I do it can’t be sticky and feel like glue…which isn’t my favorite. 😉 If I am wearing lip gloss, it’s always Beautycounter’s non-toxic version because it goes on smoothly and doesn’t feel sticky at all!
Eye Liner:
It’s taken me awhile to find an eye liner that I love, and currently I’m using the faux blacks eye liner from NYX cosmetics. It’s rated in the green on EWG and won’t smudge at all!
Brow Pencil:
I have blonde hair, and my eye brows are naturally light, so finding a Brow Pencil that I really love has been an adventure. I’ve tried so many brands that I’ve lost count! The Color Define Brow Pencil defines my brows, as it goes on smoothly and looks completely natural. I love it!
Eye Shadow:
I was so happy when I finally found an eye shadow that stays on all day! There are so many different natural eye shadows on the market, but the Color Shade Eye Duo is by far the best I’ve used. I love that each eye shadow comes with two complementary shades, as it takes the guesswork out of what colors look best together.
Mascara:
Finding a natural mascara that I really loved was a huge challenge. My eyes are incredibly sensitive to mascaras, and so many of them end up making my eyes water all day. I absolutely LOVE this mascara from Beautycounter, as it doesn’t bother my eyes, lengthens my lashes, and lasts all day!
Sunscreen:
After learning just how toxic commercial sunscreens can be, I knew that I could never use them again. The risks for commercial sunscreen far outweigh the benefits, in my opinion. The Protect All Over Sunscreen from Beautycounter is the best of both worlds, as it works really well & isn’t “heavy,” which is something I didn’t think was possible with a natural sunscreen!
I have two current favorites that I LOVE, one I use in the morning, and one in the evening. The Countermatch moisturizer from Beautycounter is what I use on my face every morning, and it’s INCREDIBLE! It adapts to my moisture needs throughout the day, so that my skin is perfectly moisturized, and never greasy or dry.
Every night before bed, I apply Primally Pure’s Beauty Cream, which is ultra hydrating and leaves my skin feeling super healthy and nourished.
I have two hand & body lotions that I LOVE. the first the ultra nourishing body butter from Primally Pure. I use the almond & vanilla during the day, and the lavender eucalyptus at night before bed.
My other favorite lotion is the hydrating body lotion from Beautycounter. Not only is it non-toxic, but it absorbs right into my skin, leaving it extra soft and super moisturized.
Soap:
I use Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap as an all-over body wash, and also as my face wash. It quickly and easily cleans off all of my makeup!
Shaving Cream:
When we shave it’s even easier for toxins to enter our body, so it’s really important to find a non-toxic shaving cream. I switched to this Shaving Gel from Dr. Bronner’s, and love how moisturizing it is. It leaves my skin feeling super soft!
Shampoo & Conditioner:
When it comes to shampoo & conditioner, I’ve tried to find one that really works well, and isn’t full of junk. I absolutely LOVE Beautycounter’s Clean Everyday Shampoo & Rinse Everyday Conditioner! It’s completely changed my hair!
Deodorant:
Truth time – even regular, chemical filled deodorants never worked for me. I tried brand after brand, and they all were disappointing. I actually found it hard to believe that Primally Pure Deodorant works sooooo much better than any other deodorant that I’ve ever tried! It keeps me smelling fresh even after an intense workout!
Toothpaste:
I thought I’d made the right choice when I switched to a well-known brand of toothpaste that I thought was “natural.” Once I took a couple minutes to really read the ingredient label, I realized that I was really only using a slightly better junk-filled toothpaste. Considering toothpaste goes directly into your mouth, I knew I needed to make a switch. Redmond Earthpaste is now the only toothpaste that I use!
Part two of this detox series will cover the natural cleaning supplies that I use. I hope you all found this list as useful as I do!
Let me know in the comments if you think that I missed any natural products that are a must try!

Looking back 10-15 years I can definitely say you ALWAYS had on you and were constantly reapplying some kind of lip balm! Maybe the questionable ingredients were why your lips were always so chapped!
Thank you for this list! I have found a few items that I enjoy that really work! but it is hard to know what will really work and it is time consuming (and expensive!) to buy a lot of different options! Makeup is next up on my “clean it up” list and I wasn’t sure where to start! Thanks for providing some great options! =) xoxo
Haha, so true, D! Makeup was definitely the last switch I made, it can be expensive to test so many products 😉 xoxo!!
