What I Ate in a Day While Traveling + My Thoughts on Alcohol

May 26, 2017 · 3 Comments

I’ve had lots of requests for more what I ate in a day posts, so today I’m sharing what I ate in a day while traveling, plus my thoughts on how alcohol fits into a healthy lifestyle!

What I Ate in a Day While Traveling + My Thoughts on Alcohol

First up, let’s get to the alcohol part!

I cut alcohol out completely for just about 2 years to allow my gut to fully heal, as I’m well aware that it isn’t exactly going to make me healthier.

Now that my gut is fully healed and I’m stronger and healthier than ever before, I do enjoy the occasional cocktail. For me, anything that I put into my body has to be totally worth it, so if I’m going to have a cocktail, I make sure that it’s made with real ingredients and no junky fillers.

Here’s the thing with alcohol – consuming it or not is a completely personal decision.

Alcohol isn’t something that I have any sort of issue with – I can take it or leave it.

I’m not able to tell you if the occasional cocktail is right for you or if it’s something that you should even consider – that’s 100% your choice.

Another question that comes up with alcohol is what type I find works best for my body. If I have a cocktail when I dine out, my go-to is a high quality silver tequila, soda water and lime. I’m not big into sugary drinks, and I actually enjoy the taste of good tequila, however, if I do see a super clean margarita (AKA fresh lime juice and no junky syrups), you bet I’m gonna order it!

I occasionally have a cocktail made with vodka as well, such as the Blueberry Smash from True Food Kitchen, or the Cucumber Basil from Season’s 52 (shown below), which are both made with high quality ingredients.

Eating well while traveling is something that many people seem to struggle with, so below I’m showing you what I ate in a day while traveling to Florida last week!

Did you know that you can bring your own food from home onto your plane? I know the food options at the airport near me aren’t the best, and I’ve never had an issue bringing my own food through security, so bringing my own healthy food makes things so simple!

I wrote a post all about dining out, and when it comes to dining out while traveling, Yelp is your BFF! I search for terms such as “gluten-free restaurants” and “grass-fed beef” which always uncover local restaurant gems!

I’ll have a post coming next week with my favorite restaurants that I dined out at while in Florida, so stay tuned for that!

I packed these snacks for the plane and they ended up being my FAVORITE! I could literally live off meals like this. I brought La Quercia prosciutto, rotisserie chicken, Midnight Moon goat gouda (literally my favorite cheese ever, and it leaves me feeling fantastic), Simple Mills crackers (more on those below), asparagus, cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas.

I dipped the veggies above into this Baba Ghannouge. It’s delicious and made with super simple ingredients!

I tried out these crackers from Simple Mills for the first time and loved them! They’re paleo-friendly and made with sprouted seeds.

Obviously I had to make little grain-free cracker stacks with the prosciutto and goat gouda. SO GOOD!

Towards the end of the flight, I had an Rx Bar, which is something that I always carry with me. I keep them in my purse, gym bag and car!

After checking in at our hotel, Mike and I headed to Season’s 52 for dinner. I’ve been to this restaurant in several locations and am always impressed with the service and quality of the food. I started out with a Cucumber Basil cocktail made with vodka. Be sure to read above for my thoughts on alcohol!

Mike and I split a gluten-free steak and blue cheese flatbread as an appetizer. It was delicious!

This is literally the only meal I’ve ever had at any Season’s 52, because it’s always tasty and completely gluten-free as is! I had the cedar plank grilled salmon with a mustard dill sauce, roasted veggies & crispy potatoes!

I am on a gut healing journey with Hashimoto’s and completely agree with your thoughts on alcohol. My husband and I started http://www.hudsonandlee.com a Honey Simple Syrup with organic and good for you ingredients and No Sugar!! We are helping others enjoy their clean cocktails with no guilt 🙂
